POOL WINTERIZING PROCEDURE
1) Brush and vacuum the pool walls and floor. Clean the skimmer
and pump strainer baskets.
2) Sand filters should be backwashed for at least 10 minutes
so that the sand bed is perfectly clean. If the sand is dirty,
either clean with a filter cleaner or replace the sand. Take
apart D.E. filters and use filter cleaner as directed. Clean
cartridge filters and wash thoroughly.
3) Lower water level 4 - 8 " below the bottom of the
skimmer.
4) Remove eyeballs out of the returns, remove water out of
the return lines with an air compressor and plug with a 1 "
to 1 1/2 " plug.
5) Blow out the skimmer line and pour anti-freeze down the
skimmer line and install a gizmo. Then pour more anti-freeze
around the gizmo in the skimmer.
6) Drain the filter, pump, chlorinators, disconnect and drain
brominators. Leave the top off the pump hair and lint basket.
Place the five way dial valve in the "WINTERIZE" or
"CLOSED" position.
7) Underwater lights should be tied to a weight and allowed
to sink into the pool water below the frost line.
8) Ladders and diving boards must be removed and stored. Lay
the board on a flat dry level surface. Never lean the board against
a wall. Slides should be heavily waxed but it is not necessary
to remove and store it.
9) Logs are not necessary in the pool.
10) (a) Add 4 litres of liquid chlorine for every 50,000 litres
of water.
(b) Add 100 ml. of a Super Algicide per 10,000 litres of water.
(c) Add 500 ml. of Control per 50,000 litres of water.
(d) Clean vinyl liner, ceramic tile, etc, with special cleaner.
11) Install pool cover with enough slack so that the rainwater
and snow will not tear the cover.
12) Clean the solar blanket with a cover cleaner before putting
it away for winter storage.
